Goodwood Races

By 15th July 2016 No Comments
“It’s fabulous racing and the most picturesque course in the world” – Frankie Dettori, Jockey

Horseracing was introduced to Goodwood in 1802 by the 3rd Duke of Richmond, to entertain a band of local army officers. Today, between the months of April and October each year, Goodwood Racecourse plays host to 19 days of edge-of-your-seat races.

Set high amongst the rolling hills of the South Downs, Goodwood provides the most stunning location for visitors and competitors alike.

Kicking off with the traditional opening ceremony on Tuesday 26th July, the glamorous Qatar Goodwood Festival (affectionately known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’) is renowned for being one of the most exciting in the world. This year’s event is on track to becoming the sporting and social highlight of the summer season.

Ladies Day is arguably the highlight of this Festival week for many, and is definitely the place to see and be seen! Taking place on Thursday 28th July, the unique ladies celebrity race ‘The Magnolia Cup’ will be held …previously entered by Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox and supermodel Edie Campbell, amongst others.

In our opinion, the Glorious Goodwood race week is a must for race enthusiasts everywhere.

Crouchers Hotel & Restaurant is located 7 miles south of Goodwood, and provides an ideal base when visiting the races. Don’t forget to study the form! Details of our rooms and restaurant menus can be found on our Rooms and Restaurant pages.
