Wake up to National Bed Month!

By 24th February 2016 No Comments
It’s true! Every year on 1st March, the National Sleep Council launch their National Bed Month – 31 days dedicated to advice and awareness highlighting the importance of a good night’s sleep.

According to the NSC, the quality of our sleep is all about the bed. The right bed is extremely important to our health and wellbeing as our sleeping environment will affect the quality of our sleep, which will determine the way we feel, both physically and psychologically.

So, we have a great bed .. how do we go about getting a good night’s sleep? The National Sleep Council’s Lisa Artis explains that ultimately it’s important to be relaxed. Your state of mind plays a major part in getting to sleep and achieving a good night’s rest.

If you find it difficult to relax, you may find it helps to run yourself a hot foamy bath before bedtime, prepare a warm milky drink or herbal tea (avoiding tea, coffee or alcohol) and try to make the last thoughts you have at night good ones. Think about the lovely day you’ve spent with family or friends; walking along the beach, exploring the countryside, shopping or visiting the local area.

When you get into bed, spend 5 to 10 minutes indulging in pure relaxation. Release any tensions of the day by imagining you’re lying on a sandy beach in the warm sun and the sound of the sea all around you. Now imagine your body is very heavy and sinking into the sand, and feel yourself drift into a deep and restful sleep…
